Practice Directions
Sometimes the DFJ or other senior judiciary will produce documents called Local Practice Directions. They are protocols which are to be applied in cases heard in the Family Court in Cleveland and South Durham. They provide guidance as to what is expected in certain types of cases.
The aim of local practice directions is to ensure the efficient and smooth running of our local family justice, whilst providing a consistent approach from which everyone can work.
Such notes are guidance. They are not law. But they are a helpful guide as to what is expected locally. Where a practice direction differs from anything contained within an Order, it is the Order which takes precedence.
For your assistance, included below are also a selection of relevant national guidance and protocols that have been published.
